ENJOY and CELEBRATE {Pursue Presence}

Yesterday was the official first day of summer! I'm struggling a little bit because my mind tells me summer is a time to get excited about adventures and fun times; but, my 70-degree-loving-San Diegan-self says "this heat is brutal and it's just beginning. Get ready to stay indoors and hate the sun!" I just do not think I was not made for southern hot and humid summers and, in the same breath, I catch myself and know I do not want my summer days to be marked by misery and complaining. I want to live a life filled with enjoyment and celebration, even and especially, when I don't LOVE all of my circumstances.

That said, I'm going to spend the summer setting aside Tuesdays for pursuing presence by enjoying and celebrating small things. I'll share fun and beautiful internet finds, I'll tell you about small moments of beauty and truth in my daily life, and share with you things I'm finding to ENJOY and CELEBRATE.

Around the Web I'm Enjoying

  • Modern Mrs. Darcy's Summer Reading Guide - After a long sort of stagnant period in my reading life, my love for a good book has been rekindled and I am veraciously consuming a variety of literature. I could NOT be happier about that. Modern Mrs. Darcy, her podcast (called What Should I Read Next), and this summer reading guide (along with all the other content she puts out for the reading world) have played a huge roll in that! If you are a reader or you want to be a reader, check her out!
  • Cookie and Kate - I love eating and feeding my family FRESH food, especially in the summer. I'm currently obsessed with salads. I am trying all sorts of combos and recipes. I really love Cookie and Kate's site. I've been cooking from it off and on for a while. It's all vegetarian (I'm not a vegetarian, but may as well be. Meat is more of a treat than a staple at our house.) and full of fresh ingredients, plus she photographs it so gorgeously and you know I love PRETTY! I'm making her Strawberry Kale Salad tonight and I kinda can't wait. I mean, just look at it:

Local Goodies I'm Enjoying (Nashville)

  • Fresh Harvest - Speaking of fresh food and salad, we've been getting a ton of our goods from Fresh Harvest. This is a co-op style, online, a la carte, CSA. We have done a traditional CSA and it was a little too much for us sometimes. With Fresh Harvest, you can go online every Sunday and see what is available that week. You choose what you want and add it to your cart, pay via paypal, and pick it up on Wednesday. We get almost all of our meat this way (because I sure do like to know where it comes from and how it's raised), and most of our produce. I also sometimes grab my coffee, flowers, eggs, cheese, and this week I even splurged for some delicious looking cookies made by a local baker. I love the one-stop-shop of it all and I love supporting local growers and artisans. If you are in Nashville, I highly recommend it.

  •  Yeast Nashville - I love a good pastry! And they've got 'em. We went last Monday for the first time and goodness those were some good Kolaches.

Small {Extra}Ordinary Moments

  • I'm at a coffee shop today, doing some "work." I left my 2 year old son with a friend of ours, who loves him so well, and he was EXCITED for me to leave. This is new and delightful and I am celebrating it with a delicious latte and a couple hours alone.
  • We are getting ready to paint about half of our house! I'm celebrating the decision to make our house a space we love even more. It's about presence and being where we are! It's really going to freshen things up and I'm super excited about. The process, like the summer, may be a lot of work and not all be "fun" but we are choosing to ENJOY and CELEBRATE.

What are you enjoying and celebrating this week??? Leave a comment and let me know!
