Reading through my shelves in 2018
We are big readers in my house. It's a family value. The 3 month old doesn't quite know what's up yet, but the 3 year old is all in. We set high reading goals, watch book sales, and talk about what we are reading over dinner. So naturally, my first post in re-awakening Over the Brim, after a long sleep, will be about reading!!!
This year, I made one of my goals for reading to try and make a major dent in all of my unread shelves. My fellow bookworms will understand how easy and compelling it can be to collect books you hope to read and yet, because of library holds and limits of time, you never get to them. I decided this was my year to slow my roll on collecting books and to catch up. Then I discovered there are a slew of people out there with the same goal. Whitney, @theunreadshelf, and a couple of her bookstagram friends have organized a hashtag and weekly challenges around it. Yay social media! I'm all in for #theunreadshelfproject2018. Big shout out and thanks to the ladies who have organized it!!!!
One thing they've wisely encouraged is to break the year apart into smaller pieces for goals and such. I've decided to set monthly goals. Here are my January goals:
- Read part of a spiritual book every day.
- Re-read an old favorite
- Read at least 1 unread physical book
- Read at least 1 unread kindle book
- Read at least 1 unread audio book
- Read at least 1 Overdrive hold **
** Overdrive is an app that you can use to check out digital content from the local library. I have a ridiculous number of suspended holds, most of which I'm next in line for. I'm including them in my unread shelves, even though I don't OWN them.
I'll check back in at the end of the month and let you know what I read!
