Hi.

Welcome to Over the Brim: a life filled up and overflowing. I'm Shanda, a mama creatively living and loving in Nashville, TN, sharing bits and pieces along the way.  I love Jesus, truth and beauty, books, coffee, and being intentional with my family. I value vulnerability and togetherness and so, I write here and invite you in.

Treasures from the Hunt

Treasures from the Hunt

I’m going to start doing Treasures from the Hunt posts on Fridays (though I won’t promise it will be EVERY Friday), where I’ll share things that I’m celebrating and enjoying, resources that are helping me and my family, and some things that just make me laugh. This week’s treasures are...

Journaling. Writing is such a key to me being a healthy person, but I don’t always make time for it. This week I filled up my first journal of the year and started a new one. I’m celebrating that because it means I’m actually writing! And that means I’m choosing health.

Friends and Neighbors game by Peaceable Kingdom - We got this game to play with our son a while ago and he loves it! So do we! It teaches empathy and helps develop a vocabulary for emotions. We love talking about emotions and working through them together in our house and anything that helps us do that is welcome.

Helping Bag - Soon after we got this game, Evan said he wanted his own helping bag that he could use in real life.  For Christmas, my mom made him one. It’s filled with things that could be used to help friends and neighbors and he loves to do that (for real or pretend).

Prayer 40 Days of Practice - This awesome resource by Scott Erickson and Justin McRoberts is beautiful and profound, while simple and accessible. I wrote an Instagram post and shared about it in my stories this week.

The Nuanced Life: Mommy Wine Culture podcast: As always, these ladies gave me a lot to think about that I think can lead to a healthier and more nuanced life! I’ve definitely joked about how parenting makes me “need” a glass of wine, but maybe that’s not the most healthy thing, even if it’s a joke (and especially if it’s not).

This really cracks me up. Bad photos are both a pet peeve and a source of entertainment for me.

This podcast on Body Image, by the Liturgists was so so good! It gave me so much to think about and I plan to listen to it a second time. I’m also going to order this book by one of the hosts: Mother’s, Daughters, and Body Image.
